Design a picture post card with a message to or from a soldier that has just left home to serve in the War.

Sketching Workshop: 1st Tuesday May

As part of our sketching workshops, we can do a group topic. This week we can prepare a sketch image as part of our pocket and postcard sketch series. The first workshop will concentrate on your imagination and help you develop an image that may very personal. Then we will develop the image into a finished sketch at the next workshop and prepare an initial display for presentation.

Introduction

The Librarian at the Batley Library contacted John to suggest that we could present some images of WW1 at the Library. John volunteered me to help. Our intention is to display picture post cards of the Oakwell Art Group at the Batley Library in memory of the start of World War 1 from August.

We have discussed this and the initial preparations are underway. We have bought a frame, poster size, for the picture post cards. When you submit the picture postcards at the June workshop, the display will be finalised.

The Topic

Design a picture post card with a message to or from a soldier that has just left home to serve in the War.

The soldier may be a relative or family friend. You may wish to give the soldier a keepsake of sketched images from home.

You may wish to design your picture postcard to give the soldier a reminder of home in the Batley-Birstall area or an image of something new from home.

Your design for the picture postcard may be from the soldier who completed his training and sent to the front. This may his first postcard home.

And, finally

We would like to put the images on our Blog. The library would like to use some of the images for their publicity.

We would like to thank everyone for their help and participation.

John and Bob
